Dating a trans woman is no different than dating anyone else.

There must always be the same level of respect, love, and empathy shown to anyone. As long as you have actually dated a human being, then you know everything you need to for dating a trans woman. If you have never dated a human, it's time to figure out your own shortfalls.

Understand what trans means.

I am a trans woman which means my gender, at birth, was not correct. The doctor looked at me, saw a penis, and stated my gender was a boy. What many don't understand is, gender does not come from your physical, it comes from your mind. Having only a few seconds of life on earth, I really didn't have a grasp of the language to tell my doctor he was wrong! Instead, I just took a nap!

Gender and sexuality are two different things.

There are many who identify as pansexual. They date boys and women that consist of a lovely range of genders. I personally am very proud of my sexuality and believe being open-minded makes the entire world a much more wonderful place to live.

Transitioning does not mean wanting to sleep with men.

Being trans has nothing to do with sexuality. We are now living in a time that is not all based on sexuality. Sexuality is always based on appearance but on the signals that are being received by others.

Be open about who you are and what you want in your life.

This is 2017 and the world is loaded with crowded, strange, and anonymous people. Whether you are a wall-flower, an extrovert, crazy, or sophisticated only you and your friends know for sure! Being open and letting people know who you are and what you are about will make you feel better about yourself. Be proud of who you are!

Don’t be fixated on her transness.

Don't be so obviously obsessed with her being a trans woman. If she wanted to have an intense discussion on transgender or educate you about the topic, she wouldn't be on a date, shed be writing on Cosmopolitan. Give her a break or she might find the entire date a bust.

Just remember, she really is a woman!

She is not something else or half of something else, she is a woman. Regardless of how she looks or acts, just like everyone else she is who she is. She is a woman!

Treat her like you would any woman.

If you compliment woman on a date, compliment her also. If you insist on paying for dinner, pay for this one as well. This is a date and should be conducted as such – even if you are a woman. Bottom line, everyone likes to feel special on a date and just have a really good time.

Dating a trans woman does not make you gay.

It doesn't matter if you are a lesbian or straight, you are what you are. A transwoman should have to spend the entire date consoling you because you learned she is trans. That doesn't make you a gay guy – period! If you are someone who treats a woman well on a date, no matter what history unfolds, it's good! It might just mean that shell considers a second date!

Be knowledgeable about what transgender means.

Trans women are not begging for your attention or acceptance. Some women have no problems telling you they are trans while others will not tell you that. Sometimes its easier to let it go by instead of feeling like they are with the wrong person and the date ends in a mess.

Let her know she is beautiful and you are so lucky to have a date with her.

If you are respectful and caring to her and her identity, she will feel just as lucky!
